SUBMISSIONS

There's a place for your work here.

Modestgal is built to be shared. Whether you create, write, photograph, design, build, or simply have something worth saying, we want to see what you're working on.

ONGOING SUBMISSIONS

Share your work with Modestgal.

This is our open submission for creatives who simply want to share what they're making. Send us your art, photography, writing, poetry, fashion, recipes, creative projects, entrepreneurship, or other original work.

Selected submissions may be shared across Modestgal's social platforms, website, Journal, or community features, with credit to the creator.

This submission is not tied to a specific Volume theme. It is an ongoing way to become part of the Modestgal creative community.

SEASONAL SUBMISSION

Volume 01 — Living With Intention

Our first seasonal creative volume is an exploration of what it means to live with intention — in the ordinary, personal, creative, and imperfect ways it can show up in our lives.

We are not looking for one definition of intentional living, and the work does not need to be instructional, serious, or perfectly polished.

We want to see your interpretation of the theme.

Think about:

  • the things you choose to pay attention to
  • the things you hold onto
  • the things you are learning to let go of
  • the way you create a home
  • the way you dress
  • the work you make
  • the people you make time for
  • the traditions you preserve
  • the ordinary moments that give your life meaning

MORE ON VOLUME 01

Use these as prompts for inspiration. Contributors do not need to answer them directly.

  • What does living intentionally mean to you?
  • What are you choosing to make more room for in your life?
  • What have you learned to do more slowly?
  • What is something ordinary that you now appreciate differently?
  • What does a considered life look like when it isn't perfect?
  • How does modesty influence the way you live, create, dress, or move through the world?
  • What parts of your life feel most like home?
  • What traditions, rituals, or habits do you want to preserve?
  • What have you intentionally chosen to leave behind?
  • What makes something worth keeping?
  • What does enough look like to you?
  • How do you create meaning in an ordinary day?
  • What do you make simply because you love making it?
  • What relationship do you have with consumption, clothing, objects, or possessions?
  • What are you currently building — creatively, personally, or professionally — and why does it matter to you?
  • Where do intention and spontaneity meet in your life?
  • What do you want your days to feel like rather than simply look like?
  • What have you inherited from the women, families, places, or cultures before you that you intentionally carry forward?

We are interested in many forms of original work.

  • ART — Painting, drawing, illustration, collage, mixed media, textile work, or other visual pieces.
  • PHOTOGRAPHY — Portraiture, still life, documentary, fashion, architecture, home, food, city life, personal photo essays, or experimental photography.
  • POETRY — Poems inspired by the theme directly or indirectly.
  • WRITING — Personal essays, reflections, short stories, observations, cultural pieces, creative nonfiction, letters, and other original writing.
  • FASHION + DESIGN — Styling, garment design, textiles, sketches, objects, interiors, graphic design, or creative projects that connect to the theme.
  • FOOD — A recipe with a story behind it, food photography, a family dish, traditions around the table, or reflections on food and home.
  • ENTREPRENEURSHIP + PROJECTS — Something you're building and the intention behind it — a business, creative practice, community project, film, collection, café, organization, or idea.
  • OTHER CREATIVE WORK — If the work does not fit neatly into one of these categories, we still want to see it.

Contributors do not need to make something that literally says "intentional living." We do not want every submission to sound like a self-help article. Avoid generic ideas such as: "5 ways to live more intentionally," "How to become your best self," "10 habits for a better morning." Instead, we are interested in specific experiences, perspectives, images, stories, objects, emotions, places, and ideas. Show us what intentional living means through your eyes.

A submission does not need a dramatic story. It could be:

  • A photograph of your grandmother's kitchen.
  • A poem about taking the long way home.
  • A painting of an object you've kept for years.
  • A recipe passed through your family.
  • A photo series documenting your neighborhood.
  • An essay about changing the way you buy clothing.
  • A fashion project inspired by your heritage.
  • A reflection on motherhood, friendship, work, home, faith, creativity, or rest.
  • A project you've spent years slowly building.
  • A collection of things you notice on your morning commute.

The ordinary is welcome here.

  • Does this feel personal to my perspective?
  • Is this work I genuinely care about?
  • Does it connect to the theme in some way, even if the connection is subtle?
  • Is this my original work?
  • Would I be excited to see this printed alongside the work of other creatives?

If yes, we'd love to see it.

Not every submission will be selected for Volume 01. We will curate the final book based on the strength of the work, connection to the theme, originality, and how the pieces come together as one complete Volume. Selected contributors will be contacted before their work is published. Submission does not mean the creator gives up ownership of their work. Publication permissions and usage details will be confirmed with selected contributors before publication.

COLLABORATION

Have something else in mind?

Not every idea fits neatly into a submission category. If you're a creative, photographer, writer, designer, entrepreneur, brand, or someone with an idea for a collaboration or project with Modestgal, we'd still love to hear from you.

This space is for collaborations, partnerships, features, creative ideas, and other ways someone may want to work with the house.
